Transformer Dry Air Generator: Operation Procedure & Industrial Applications

Introduction to Dry Air Generators

Dry air generators play a pivotal role in the electric industry, providing critical support for maintenance of large equipment like transformers and reactors. These systems ensure internal insulation of power equipment remains moisture-free while preventing oxygen deprivation for maintenance personnel working inside enclosed units. Compared to bottled gas solutions, dry air generators offer superior safety, reliability, cost-efficiency, and operational convenience.

Power & System Activation

  1. Electrical Connection
Link the power supply to the control panel terminals, verifying correct voltage compatibility.
  2. Compressor Startup
    • Switch the circuit breaker's air compression switch to "ON," ensuring the compression valve is fully open.

    • The air compressor will initiate, building initial pressure.

  3. Cooling System Activation
Turn the cooling system switch to "ON" to maintain optimal operational temperature.

Dry Air Generation Setup

  1. Automatic Drying Mode
Set the air-drying heat reduction control switch to "AUTO." The system will automatically dehydrate incoming air via alternating "A" and "B"
  2. drying chambers, completing a 5-minute regeneration cycle.
  3. Operational Mode Selection
    • Switch to "MAIN," then alternate between "A" (dehydration system) and "B" (circulation system) based on process requirements.

  4. Pressure Regulation
    • Monitor the exhaust pressure gauge after activating all systems.

    • Close the exhaust valve gradually until pressure stabilizes at 0.5MPa.

Technical Considerations

  • Dew Point Monitoring: Ensure generated air dew point meets equipment requirements (typically ≤ -40°C for transformer applications).

  • Seal Integrity: Regularly inspect flanges and connections to prevent dry air leakage.

  • Shutdown Protocol: Depressurize the system in reverse operational order to avoid equipment damage.
